January 2016 Runner’s World Cover

Lifestyle / January 5, 2016

Can you imagine my surprise when Glen, the fun Kiwi exchange student from high school (of course we are friends on “the book”) posted what appeared to be a Runner’s World bearing my semblance back in early December?

“Is this you again, Amanda?” he asked.

I’d recognize me anywhere! I knew the photo from my Chicago shoot last July, but it had been flipped (I am positive my hummingbird tattoo resides behind my heart where I keep my dearly departed Max-Nugget, behind my left shoulder) and the green patches of my Michi and Derek Lam for Athleta pieces had been changed to red. Two massive bruises had been airbrushed away, but yes it was me.

So what a pleasure to be on the cover of Runner’s World twice in four months. It makes it seem as though I fitness model full-time.

The cover reads: Get Stronger, Snack Smarter, BEAT INJURIES, Stay Motivated (And be awesome!)

I have to get my hands on a copy because beating my foot injury has proven difficult. I’m feeling strong on the other fronts. *giggle

There is much to discuss and I am holding back while I wait for the new website. To be fair, it is me holding up production trying to decide which pictures to use and such. Being a journalist, chef, veteran, athlete, on-air host, fitness model and all around weirdo (I call myself that in the nicest way) makes Popeye/Spanky/Turd/Burrilla (and a half-dozen other nicknames I’ll respond to) hard to define in the form of a website. I think my friend Natalie said it best; “Modern-Day Renaissance Woman.”

I’ll take it.

I’m on a plane to San Diego right now and eager to update on last week’s trip to Houston for the Snowdrop Ultra55-Hour Race, and this week’s trip, which is an exciting new endeavor schemed up by some forward thinking Commanding Officers and me; Going back to where I came from (the military) to connect it to what I do now (fitness and performance driven by the proper fuel, clean-eating, and always leaving time for fun, adventure and wine). Being in the military is an athletic endeavor. I have been using the hashtag #fitwithalife and it’s applicable to this new project. Stay tuned!
