Vegan? Hey, it was a happy accident. I haven’t converted.
I am a self-proclaimed smoothie goddess and a certain someone calls me the “Blender Babe”, so, true to form I have been concocting up many a shake in the Vitamix. If you don’t have one, save every red cent until you can purchase one. It will change your life.
Aaaaaaaand keep your eyes peeled for my smoothie recipes in upcoming issues of Iron Man Magazine. But I’ll tell you more about that another time.
After a workout I need CARBS! But not boring carbs. We all know that making things taste good is my jam. I don’t think of food as solely fuel; it’s joy, it’s nourishment, it’s something that I think about all the time. Yes, I am obsessed with good, wholesome, unprocessed food.
It’s smoothie time ladies and gents!
Vegan Banana Chocolate Smoothie
Total time: 3 minutes | Serves: 1
Ingredients
8 ounces unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 medium banana, peeled (I hope that is a given, and I love overripe bananas)
1 heaping tablespoon chocolate rice protein powder (I like NutriBiotic)
1 teaspoon organic whole ground flaxseed meal
1 teaspoon hemp hearts
1 teaspoon hemp protein (unflavored, I like Nutiva)
1 teaspoon steel cut oatmeal
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1 teaspoon cacao nibs
1 teaspoon almond meal
1 teaspoon coconut oil
5 pieces of ice (optional)
Steps
1. Blend
2. Drink
There are a whole lot of ingredients in there in small portions. They each offer something special for me post workout and none of them are flavored strongly enough to alter the taste of the shake. I really just taste the banana, chocolate, and a hint of bitter chocolate from the cacao nibs. A banana is my largest supplier of sugar on a normal day (you know, a day that I don’t trip and fall on a bag of Haribo gummy bears), so I want to make sure it feels a bit decadent!
And of course, the vitals:
